| I would use cereal rye, annual rye struggles to overwinter this far north. Cereal rye is also much easier to kill and easier to get established. I would seriously revaluate your statement about killing rye in the spring. Be afraid, sometimes mother nature doesn't cooperate. Also, mixing uan in a spring chemical pass kinda messes with roundup. Just like trying to kill rye with roundup and an atrazine type premix (keystone) or a ppo type product (verdict) is a challenge. IMO opinion 10 lbs of n as uan in spring is useless in a rye cover crop. That stuff can tie up a fair amount of N. The bigger is gets before its killed, makes tie up worse. I am no cover crop expert, but I have saw lots of fails killing it.
I do however agree with Ty if you want to use N more efficiently your going to have to quit fall gas. | |
