Dad and I both spent a lot of time in line at king milling in Lowell during harvest and they were rejecting as many red wheat trucks as white for vomatoxin and white wheat had a $2.25 premium


It wasn't too long ago that Lowell would ONLY take white wheat. Low test weight , sprouts and vom made them realize that they better start taking red wheat if the want to stay in business.


Granted, white wheat requires a little different level of management, but with the premium and the willingness of the millers to take 20% moisture wheat with no discount there's some real advantage over red wheat. As well, darn few commodities grown in Michigan that have a positive basis, but soft white wheat is one of them. That tells me the what the market wants pretty clearly.
