SE South Dakota/ SW Minnesota | I defiantly think there is yield drag. I have both. If you have to have quality the first year RR is the way to go. If they dont care about some weeds the first year don't waste your money on it. Direct seed 20 to 25 lbs to the acre. You won't have any weeds the second year. I sell a lot of hay to a dairy and all is chopped no RR. The weeds never get a chance to go to seed if being chopped. If you want dry hay that's a problem with weeds so RR would be better then. I'm not a fan of companion crops they will cut down on the longevity of your stand guarenteed.
