Subject: RE: Corn scouting disappointments DeKalb county Illinois

Last weekend on our trip thru IL, Iowa, Mn, and Wisconsin I saw a good crop in Iowa, Minnesota. I did not see the kind of crop IL had last year. Ear size is just not there for widespread 230 plus yields. Illinois will be all over the board but to think it will only be off 26 bushel from last years record is just not right. Wisconsin was looking OK but getting pretty dry as a good chunk of the corn belt is now. With record amounts of rain in May and June over a good part of the eastern belt and parts of Iowa you cannot simply shut off the rain in mid July into August. There are no roots on a lot of corn, there is no nitrogen on a lot of corn. You will not grow a trend line crop with these conditions. MO
