Subject: RE: New Ideal Picker Shellers?

Lincoln County. NC
Combines, less demand for ear corn and New Idea's persistence ran just about all other makers of corn pickers out of business by the '80s. The 324 (wide) and 325 (narrow) two row base units and the 329 sheller unit were the last models produced by New Idea along with a husking bed attachment. In this area, several were used by dairy farmers making high moisture shelled corn, and a few dry corn producers used them on small operations. I covered a couple hundred acres a year with a 325/329 for about 12 years. I can't say they were built for that level of use, and sure can't say I missed it when I finally bought a 6620. Parts are getting real hard to find. A complete first elevator chain for a 325 was impossible to locate for a customer last fall.
