West central Illinois
I like to spread 3-4 pounds of turnips with a atv seeder then come right behind with 1.5-2 bushels of oats and let the drill work the turnip seed in. This has worked very well for us for several years. I like the barkamp turnips as they make a lot of leaf growth and less bulb. I will be planting ours in a couple weeks after corn silage. Oats will help the cattle retain the turnips a little better and we even put out some low quality grass hay sometimes for a little dry matter. I think he turnips leaves are like 18 % protein and the bulbs 10 or something so cow get kinda loose on em. They eat the crap out of em though. Great feed
