A mix as you suggested is definitely better than straight radishes. I think the responses here are fairly representative of reality- it's pretty straight forward- less radishes per acre = less stink. The 2lb rate planted in mid August might be too much for your situation around houses. I would suggest 1 lb as a compromise and bump up the rate of the other species a bit.
