Subject: RE: Oat cover crop following corn preferences (ideas)

GrainTrader - 7/21/2015 01:54 I have about 80 acres of rolling ground with erosion issues. It has 112 day corn on it planted May 7th and 110 day corn Planted May 14th on it. It'll likely be my last picked corn this fall unless I get my drier ready by then (which is looking unlikely). Anyways, I wanting to get opinions on which strategy is the best to pursue... 1. Having an airplane fly on oat seed into standing corn? 2. Drilling the oats directly after harvest? (My dad has a JD 750 drill I could use) 3. Having oats spread with dry fertilizer as a carrier? The goal is to get some growth to hold some soil and prepare it for notill soybeans the next spring. What would experienced oat cover croppers suggest?

Because of the thick hull, oats doesn't germinate on the soil surface very well.  I wouldn't recommend this practice.  If you want to b'cast, use cereal rye or something without a big seed and thick hull.
