Then you had a junk drive.
They're pretty robust with static magnetic fields. It'd take something like an inductive stovetop or Mri machine to get the field to create an electric current to disrupt their innards.
Now, there could have been design flaws in the drive making it susceptible to a magnet, but not the memory itself.
