Sat in on a presentation from the extension service earlier this spring, and they said grasshoppers run in 4-5 year cycles, and we have been building the population for 3-4 years or more now. After about 4-5 years their own predators and disease bring the populations back down.

I'm hoping since they started so early this year, maybe they will cycle out.
