I planted some 48T53's last year also. Mine were short too but we were dry in July when they needed the rain. I ended up having a lot of shatter loss due to dry conditions at harvest, should've been a better yield if it wasn't for that. They were loaded with pods even with the weather. I will try some more when I plant group 4s again. Planted all 5's this year to catch late rains.
