Dan,
'Here', when we size mains, it is now minimum 1", and usually about another 20% in cost to go to 1.5".
So many of us are looking at the stuff we put in 40-50 years ago at 1/2, 5/8 and 3/4, the cost to upgrade that 1" system now to an inch and a half, and saying "go big or go home..."
Sometimes, tile .....
