Holland, Indiana (SW IN)
Here- some of our tight soils put 4" on 45' centers 3' deep- any deeper here don't seem to work- waited years thought it would start working- on wet years like this had 20' of corn then missing or very yellow between tile lines. Added more mains to get to 3/4" coefficient (main sized for 3/4" of water removal per day) and double split the laterals with 3" so tile on 15' looks like it paid this year. All soil types are diff at 61 years old seems I learn that almost every year. IMO main sizes are many times put in too small to save $ on system sure don't appear to work very well- we like 3/4"coef. much better than 1/2"coef.
