frytownfarmer - 6/30/2015 00:24 If the rye was drilled sooner in the fall could you get an earlier planting in the spring?

In my experience.....it all depends on the weather/ location.....from fall seeding-to winter dormancy-to spring. I aerially seed rye in September on some acres and have had great growth (6-8") going into winter. Yet when spring breaks "here" it sometimes "looks" like the rye stand is half of what is was last fall. It takes awhile to break dormancy and gather steam to get rank like those pics.

So the best way to explain it will be .....it all depends on "your" location, and "your" weather. Easiest way to know for sure......try some on your own.
