Subject: RE: Rye cover crop question.

Try more like a bushel... most cover crop requirements are 1 -1.5 and some more than that. And put it on in a standing crop with an airplane. When do you get your first frost?
As far as planting all you need is trash wipers and no till colters, that's it. Plant into standing rye, must not let it get to big. I've worked with cover crops a lot and just about every imaginable senario in just about any environment. Have to watch the slugs!!!!!! Rye cover for some reason in certain years when the conditions are right you will have slugs and if your not careful.... Will wipe you out. Rye is nice, can be a little pricey but you have to manage it.... Period because it can and will pack your lunch if it get away from you. Rye and hairy vetch are a great combination for corn cover crop and do just fine when you fly it on.
