Just outside downtown Prairie Hill | Rain again today, more in the weather forcast. I haven't given up on planting beans, but the light is fading fast. What kind of cover crop combos should we consider planting mid July? Should we do a summer annual like sudex or millet and then come back with a fall/winter cover like wheat or rye? Do we need to kill the growing weeds? Killing the waterhemp and marestail is going to be pricey at this point. Hate to say it, but this prevent plant option opens some doors for us corn/soybean folks that are new to us. If we can't grow soybeans, what can we do to improve the soil and utilize this growing season and stay within the insurance requirements? Thanks |
