It's mostly a sight-seeing trip. The mountains are not particularly high, but the glaciers have carved some spectacular alpine stuff.
Read up on the geology of the region and you might better understand some of the things you will see. Look up belt sedimentary rocks, overthrust belt and detachment slabs.
As stated above, you might check out Waterton Lakes or you can go up to Banff if you have time and marvel at Lake Louise.
