South Central NE
Poverty Flats,
I have had quite a bit of experience with frost on corn thru the years. As long as the growing point is below the soil surface (which it would be thru the Midwest) there will be almost no damage. There may be minimal tie ups and cosmetic damage but that is about it. As the growing point breaks the surface then it still would take 3 or 4 hours of sub 30 to do big damage in our experience. I have never experienced frost on emerged soybeans but our agronomist has said it needs to be cold for awhile to get to them as well. And, like corn the larger the plant the more susceptible it becomes. Another thing to remember is that frost events in May tend to be localized in nature and thus are smaller areas. I cannot speak about wheat since I have had very little experience. But, I would doubt there would be much market reaction in corn or beans... Good luck and I hope you miss the frost!
