| We had a talk with our vet about this, and he felt good brands had good ingredients, and most brands were junk. Look for one that has glucosamine chondroitin ASU. The top hit on Google is a good brand. It ain't cheap, but I was taking 4 Aleve per day and now haven't taken any in a couple of months. Maybe it's placebo effect, but I'm sure getting more sleep at night.
If you can stand to read a book, look for the arthritis book by Miriam Nelson at Tufts University. She runs through all the treatments, what might work, how to try it out on yourself, as well as some diet and exercise recommendations. The bullet is that she recommends drinking more water, eating more fruits and vegetables, and exercise.
Take it seriously. I've always exercised and kept my weight reasonable, but they are already talking to me about hip replacement at 52. I hate to think that a few simple changes would have prevented that. Don't expect too much help from doctors; all they seem to know is pain killers and joint replacement. | |
