Hardin County, Iowa | We had an Iowa hydrant leaking last fall. We dug it up (with the backhoe) and it was leaking from the weep hole. I went to get parts and the hardware owner told me to try adjusting the rod that the handle pulls up. If it's an Iowa hydrant loosen the square head set screw that holds the rod and raise the handle a little and tighten the set screw. Then shut the handle. This forces the rubber end of the rod against the water pressure tighter. I hope that makes sense. It worked for us. I dug it up for nothing since the adjustment can be made from ground level. Paul
Edit to add: We use 4" dwv pvc around our hydrants; it lets the water get away from the weep hole easier.
