The places that do make it work, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, etc, they don't have any other options, and they happen to have lots and lots of dead dinosaurs to burn.
Actually, most of these countries are using solar energy for their desalination plants, at least the most recent ones I've heard about. They are recycling the heat into electricity too. But I don't know that California has a lot of options either. Desalination makes a lot of sense for this coastal state. We need to make it work economically too. It's not really a domain where we have invested a lot of research yet. |
