Subject: RE: Gehl choppers questions

Faunsdale, AL
On a FOX you put in a plate that slides in over the lower feed rolls and block up the upper rolls a little so they cannot scrub the plate. And then you disable the drive to the lower rolls!! Had an employee notice the "missing" shear bolt that was keeping the lower rolls from turning.......made some nice strips of 11 gauge steel when he started back up.

Plate slides in until it lays on last/back bottom roller just ahead of shearbar and had a couple 1/4" bolts holding it to sides of feed roll housing.

Of course if you have a metal alert, you would have to disable it.

The adapter I had for the FOX (Lindquist built I think) had a beater in the throat to take the ears off the header auger and stuff the feed rolls. In good corn it was almost just in the way, but the White-AGCO head had to drive from the right side, and that was how they got power over there on the Fox. Had another of their adapters on a Claas 880 with an 8 row Deere head and it also had the beater, but it seemed to work fine there.

The Claas had a curved "cob saver" that covered the bottom of the lower feed roll to prevent loss whenever chopping corn or earlage. Forgot to take it off once in haylage and had to cut it out when roller wrapped up with ryegrass!
