I did that with a combine we didn't use much, only to cut specialty crops and some years we didn't run it. If finally got that I couldn't keep Freon in it for the time period so for $79 it was fixed with a new air conditioner plugged into the generator on the step. Worked for several years like that, much cheaper than a service call and parts to fix up an old R12 system....
