Subject: RE: Dental Crowns

Some hypersensitivity is to be expected when you have a tooth prepped for a crown. Basically, the prep removes part of the insulating layer of the tooth and makes it more sensitive to air, cold, etc.

It's possible that you had some kind of allergy to the temp bonding agent. A temporary crown is meant to be temporary. The margin between the temp crown and the tooth is not perfect -- any roughness can irritate the gum tissue and cause inflammation. Any sort marginal gap can trap bacteria and also cause inflammation.
