Subject: RE: Things that drive a person crazy

Spring Ranch, NE
I flipped an old stack feeder on its top and slapped some grain bin sheeting on 3 sides. No roof. I don't have to fight mud since it seems I live in a dry spot, which is fine for calving. But the wind has been consistently 20+, and my lots have a good slope and drain well. I have had less then day old calves find my wind break and straw, has worked real good. Its funny to watch the cows stand with their head in between the bars and bellar to try and entice em out. I still have a calf or two that will lay by the bale feeder though, not as much as before (I tell myself).

I think that calves don't like low roofs on the small shelters, a pole shed with 10' roof like my FIL has, doesn't seem to bother and his calves are in it all the time.
