The more I've thought about this I think it's very doable with today's tech and farming practices such as No Til. My first response was based on my own experience of growing up on a Specialty Seed Corn farm which requires irrigation and detasseling responsibilitys 24/7.
I have a lender who knows of guys who farm 1000 acres or more and still have off the farm careers.
