If your funds go down because a market drop you wont show a capital loss. You have more shares and they are worth less now. Your capital gains are paid in shares.
Depends on how much the NAV drops. If NAV drops below your basis, that is a capital loss if you sell. Not my first day owning a fund.
Edit: Cost Basis is determined per share, not by total investment. Can be average, FIFO or LIFO.
