Check out a Chromecast (usb device) to plug into a non-smart tv to make it a smart tv. I have a couple of them and I paid $25 for my last one. Walmart (and everyone else) carries them.
If you are looking to display your laptop's screen on the tv, this is the route to take. Just hit the "cast" icon and your laptop browser is on the tv. Great for Netflix too.
