Death comes to us all. Life's but a walking shadow
I haven't priced revenue protection yet but let's say it $15 per acre for 75% protection on 160-180 bushel corn and the spring price is $4.15. So the trigger yield is 160x.75 or 120 bushel and the gross revenue is 160x.75x4.15 or $498. Let's say it cost you $250 to plant an acre and you pay $150 rent for a total investment of $400 per acre. Let's just say you plant 500 acres for a total investment of $200,000 dollars of your own money. $15 x 500 acres is $7,500 or 3.75% of your total investment.
I can tell you that the most basic important thing you can do as a farmer is to preserve your capital and from my own hard experience the peace of mind of that $7500 is well worth it.
But maybe that's just me.
