Tip of the Thumb of Michigan | Modern hybrids need alot more N after flowering than just 10 years ago. If you have a plan to keep your v5 v6 side dress N available late, that will do it. If the weather goes against you, i.e. saturated warm soils, then going back into the field late with a Hagie or Miller could pay. If you are prone to late N loss, planning on an app near flowering could be the safest bet, but spending $4-500,000 on one of sprayers and toolbars doesn't pay for hardly anyone.
Also think about when you get moisture in your area. In my area, flying on urea on July 15 is a real gamble. We might not get any rain for 3 weeks that time of year. It would be a total waste. Same with dribbling 28. It has to get into moisture or is not happening. |
