Measles often leads to other complications one of them being pneumonia, in the 1920s the death rate was around 30% from measles pneumonia. Even from 1987 to 2000 the death rate was 3 deaths per 1000 measles in the US other parts of the world the rate is as high as 28%. We live in a pretty safe world health wise and its kind of like talking about how far people are removed from the farm and how food is produced. We really don't understand the fear parents felt when Polio, Measles, Rheumatic fever were common,
