When you buy from a registered breeder, he will submit the paper work on the bull, and they will send out the paperwork on them once they calculate it out. It will be transferred to your name, and you'll be able to look it up on the breed registry, as well as having the hard paper copy for your records. (From what I've experienced up here anyways)

Slight problem with this is - for a commercial guy not breeding any purebred heifers or keeping tight records, the epd's you get from a young bull is all you will ever know of him and the accuracy will be low, since there wasnt offspring to narrow in on what he actually produces, other than what you observe... But atleast it's something to go off of and compare him with others.

I've often thought there should be a way to report to the database on time and cause of death. So when looking up old bulls you can see if they are still around, collected, and what they died from.
