ncia | when we got a water softener that only recycled when it "sensed" that it was necessary, our salt use was cut to 25% of what it had been when we had one that recycled twice a week. Was worth the purchase. 8 bags will easily make a year. one disclaimer tho, We used to have 3 teenage daughters, so water use for showers and washing clothes was more, but they could also lug salt bags,too.
