Subject: RE: A poll about labor, who does who don't

Sunnyside, WA
I work with one very good herd manager who has been with me for 5 months. Before that I covered for a year while my last herdsman dealt with brain cancer. Herd manager oversees 1 parlor manager, 3 cow guys, 2 calf guys, plus a daytime and night time maternity plus one relief for those two. Parlor manager works with 14 milkers, split between 2 parlors.

I also work with an outside foreman. His brother is his biggest help, plus 3 irrigators that double in the winter hauling manure and maintaining pens. He also gets the help of the other 2 maternity guys when they are not on nights. Manages all the farming and irrigating as well as equipment maintenance. 1 other guys take care of compost, pack silage, do fieldwork, relief feed, etc. We do all of our own farming and fieldwork except chopping and hauling silage.

2 guys take care of feeding all the cows and heifers not on milk. They relief each other.

Wife takes care of all bills, payroll, feed deliveries, and our 4 kids all 9 and under.
FIL and MIL are basically retired, but help out now and again.

Not sure what I do most days, besides keep the ship on the right course
