Subject: RE: Lake effect

North of London
I know some are saying it is the open water in the Arctic that is adding to our moisture in both rain and snow but the lake effect snow is generated by evaporation from the (relatively) warmer water in the lakes and then this evaporation falls as snow in these bands or 'streamers' that set up.

I do not think this snow will last except maybe a little where we piled it.
Forecast is for warmer for several days with rain.
It is the rain that they most fear in Buffalo now with all the snow on roofs to soak it up rather than let it run off resulting in roof collapses.

Saw that here several years ago when a number of barn roofs came down from snow load.

London forecast
