Stay away, actually run away from a 8440 JD. Now before I get flamed, I owned a 8640. They are a mess waiting to happen. Some will run for ever. SOme will not. My 8640 had 5500 hrs when the head gasket blew. Once they start they do not stop. Save your self a lot of problems. Get a magnum or deere or what ever you want in a newer MFD. They will be all you need.
One thing to point out. The JD 8000 series supposed to have PTO bearing problems when you use the pto a lot, like baling. Make sure you ask about that if you look at one.
