South Dakota | I just saw research by South Dakota State looking at this question. The conclusions were that if you plant your soybeans early, treating pays off, usually 3 or so bushels, sometimes more when conditions are conducive to pest growth. They even showed payoff at about 1.5 bushels on early planted beans in 2012 when we only got about 12 inches of rain for the year. Can you find cheaper treatment? Yes, but if you plant early, into cool wet soils, treat them.
