You are correct, I can not speak for everyone.

You are incorrect when you use the word 'many' to describe the number with guns in their household.
Check statistics and you will find the number to be less than 20%
Those areas of the country with higher %'s are also the areas with higher homicide rates so the question then becomes if those areas need guns to protect themselves or if the guns are the reason for those deaths.

Yes I do have guns in the house.

Have killed nearly a dozen racoons this year.
I do not have to go next door to put down disabled animals any longer as they finally got their own rifle to do it themselves.
They never needed a gun until the dead stock trucks stopped carrying guns to kill those animals when they did a pickup.

I have been around for 7 decades and have never even thought about a need to protect myself from anybody.
That would include all my family. As far as I know none of them owns a gun.
Friends of ours in Winnipeg do not own guns as far as I know.

A comment that surprised me a bit, a news talking head was interviewing a Canadian government official soon after the attack and shooting. He claimed the percentage of Canadian long gun ownership is higher than US long gun ownership. Cant tell you the fellows name, an older grey haired man in a brown suite.
