south east Indiana | I know someone who lives close to me raises chicken and turkies selling them at farmers markets. In addition to the poultry he has raises a couple steers and hogs and recently bought some ewe lambs from me to try those. He seems to do well, making a living for his family. He does sell in upscale neighborhoods and not next door.
I do not know how many animals he raises or sells. I know I do not sell nearly enough lamb locally to make that work. I have wondered if it would work for producers to "specialize" and raise different products and 1 person sell products farmers markets. Marketing I think would take time and the right person to get it done. | |
