+1 for the previous poster. Start there. That shows your current added printers. In there you can also select your default. But it sounds like to me you had the PDF printer selected. That is the only time I can think that it would go to a save screen when printing. If you look at the path you were saving to, I would venture to guess you would find your "printed" files there.
