Subject: RE: feeding out your own calves

Saronville NE
A lot of variances, price of pasture rent, are cows paid for or have payment on cows, feed hay for 6 months outa the year or graze stalks and only feed hay 3 months outa the year. Lots of variables. I would sure hope you are raising good 500 lb calves for less then 1000 a head.

SO $1000 in the calf, will use 1350 avg outweight, between heifers and steers, I figure steers at 1400, heifers at 1300. I will blend a COG, steers gain better usually, my COG is always higher then garvos, I charge myself yardage etc, to cover feedwagon payment, fence repair, electric bill, fuel etc. So I will use 65 COG so 850 lbs at 65, is $553, so $1553 cost, sell 1350 at $1.46 june board if figuring presently, so $1971. So $418 profit, by my figures.
