Subject: update

SW Ohio
Well we went 15 days with almost no phone and very iffy DSL, most days nothing. Called "Century Link" 800 number every day, found a few other non published numbers to call, got the same excuses every time, "tech is scheduled for today!" never showed, even went to the local switching office/repair corral and cornered my assigned tech, "I'll be there tomorrow" Well finally he showed up and the problem was in the the 1200' run from the street to the branch pole where my neighbor splits off. Tech did not have the right wire to fix so he laid a simple indoor wire on the ground---for 1200'---through the cow pasture! with six splices because he did not have one lone piece that long. Today the subcontractor crew showed up with new cable of the right type and strung it on the poles. the old wire was steel two conductor "C" cable, 50+ years old, cracked insulation and all. Now we wait for a long wet spell to see if it goes bad again or is fixed.
