Central Alberta | I have always found that the hay dries faster after a killing frost. Maybe that is just in my area with a heavier colder temps for a killing frost. A light frost won't do it, just brown some of the top leaves. A heavy frost will, than have to get it cut within a week or all the leaves will fall off. It can take 5-7 days for the second cut to dry under ideal conditions here before a killing frost and maybe 3 days at most after a killing frost!
Being farther up north than most of you guys maybe we have a different definition of a killing frost? We have been extremely dry here all summer and now finally the rains are coming.(about the second driest year I can remember) I might have to wait for a killing frost to get my second cut and the last of my greenfeed baled up | |
