Nebraska aka the boondocks | I think you would have the same issues we have in Nebraska, which is, what is the "usable" water storage capacity of your soil? Your NRD, Natural Resource District, or land grant university should have the answer, or the extension office. The farther west you go, the less it is. If you have soil the eastern corn belt, than it would work great, if you have sand, then not so much. We usually figure 50% of the top four feet holding capacity as "usable" to the plant. At peak water use, which is .40 per day in my area, we can only hold 6 days of "usable" water, so there is no way that would work here if we had to shut off that early. now that I reread your post, if 150 is your goal and looking at your planting date, it may work, but again you need to do the math on your soils ability to store water. |
