Subject: Train experts, ekeller and others

Aggieland
Let's start out by saying I love trains. I turned down a conductor trainee job with UP when I got offered my current job (at the same time) because of a newborn and the hard schedule. But I have a few questions regarding trains that I know someone here can answer.
Are there sleeping quarters on the trains and what's the typical distance a train crew runs the train?
Why do you see other road names teamed with competing railroads and how does this work, all the same keys, do they pay a rental fee, fuel, does the owner have say on where the engine can go etc?
When two units are elephant style yet the third is reversed how does it know which way it's motors need to turn?
How loud is it inside the cabs if these new modern engines?
And finally have you ever heard of or seen a guest get to ride in an engine?

Thanks for your replies

Caleb
