South Central Wisconsin
I have a nephew that works for them. He's 22 and a pretty amazing young man. He does whatever the railroad asks of him. He'll go work a tie gang out of state, he'll take any training they offer him. It's screwy how seniority works with the railroad and bidding of jobs. He works hard and takes his job pretty seriously. He bid for a track inspector job and got it awhile back. He literally made himself sick worrying about missing something on his stretch of track. Fortunately , he got bumped out by a senior guy and got back to running a machine. A class A cdl was also a bonus.
The biggest thing I've learned from him concerning the railroad is it's just like all jobs. If you'll work and do what you're told while being a decent likable person , you'll enjoy it.
