I agree with the other responses.  But don't give up on it and follow your vets treatment.  You may ask your vet if he/she would be willing to try injecting some penicillin mixed with a little steroid directly into the affected joint......  Good luck.  (Most of us have to experience this before we realize the importance of dipping and watching those navels after birth.)
