southern MN | If the beep sequence is actually 1-3-2 beeps, this might apply:
Dell PCs are very fussy about RAM, so swapping a stick from a different model may not be informative.
Power off and unplug
Press/hold power button for ~15 sec
Open case and remove all RAM modules from the 9200
Install one of its original modules in slot 1 (closest to the CPU)
Remove motherboard battery and press/hold power button for ~30 sec
Reinstall the battery (right-side-up!)*
Close the case and see if it boots now with only mouse, monitor and keyboard attached.
Then repeat the entire process, swapping all other original RAM modules, one at a time, in slot 1. If you ID a bum module, you will need to buy a matched pair and install in them in the matched slots (with same color retention clips). If they all work in slot 1, add a module to slot 2 (matching color retention clips), etc...
If none works in slot 1, try using slot 3. Slot 3 will be right next to slot 1, but has different color retention clips. If nothng works in slot 1, but they work in slot 3, you have a motherboard failure.
*If the battery is more than 2-3 years old, this might be a good time to replace it. It's a 3-volt CR2032 lithium ion coin cell battery, ~$2-$3 at discount stores. | |
