Midwest
Cattle need to be careful here. Market share takes years to develop and seconds to scare off. Cattle fed high energy rations began because of surplus cheap corn. We taught people to like grilled meat which the flavor comes from burning the surface and making the flavor come from known carcinogens. Cattle feeding seriously began during cheap corn of the 1950's. We have since moved a competitive use for corn closer to the source, namely ethanol. Pastures that used to be on marginal land is going into row crop production. If and when livestock production begins the expansion phase it may find out that its feed needs have found different markets and will be difficult to rebound back to its former size. Buying a cow is like owning a piece of stock. No matter how great the company is, if its real value is not discounted significantly from its intrinsic value, then the purchase is a financial looser.
