Subject: RE: cattle bedding pack buildings

all over Iowa
The feedlots I know with 80-100' wide buildings are running 40+ sq ft per head.
The feedlots I know with 40' wide buildings and 4/12 pitch roofs are running closer to 30 sq ft per head. That's the difference in air quality and air changes; the moisture just plain gets out of the narrower buildings better and results in a drier bedding pack, less bedding use, and better stocking rate (from a cost per headspace standpoint).
I know they don't fit on a piece of land as well, but the longer narrower buildings definitely make for a better cattle environment.
